They Win. You Lose. is the first book of The Implosion Saga. It's a very funny thriller. Mick and Jim are two incompetent, Soho-based, corporate video producers. They drink too much and don’t earn enough.
So when the Mafia come calling, demanding back rent of £6,000, they have ten minutes to do a runner. All they have is an old Morris Traveller (a Woodie, if you’re in the US) and a tank full of petrol.
Their sudden flight takes them to the sex trade in Southsea, out-of-body experiences, horrendous amateur dramatics, Death Metal pubs, foul-mouthed, 80-year-old punk grannies and hit men dressed in pink Mexican outfits.
Under constant threat from enforcers, they get offered a mystery job in Las Vegas. When they arrive, six Reservoir Dogs' lookalikes are waiting for them. They make their escape using the world’s most mercenary taxi driver.
During the next 24 hours, they chicken out a freight train, walk six moonlit miles across the desert with cactus-punctured groins, find out what badly manufactured LSD can do to you, avoid Thelma and Louise suicide-a-likes, have sex with Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper, make a commitment in front of a Bourbon-fuelled Elvis at Big Derek’s Gay Marriage Emporium and blow up a Harley Davidson. The final showdown takes place with the mafia boss in the world’s most unspeakably lurid theatrical environment. A very neat twist propels them from sudden death into a totally different way of life.

I love humor/adventure books and They Win, You Lose had me laughing and rooting for these two bumbling idiots from the opening pages. The book is about Mick and Jim, who are two not-very-good video producers who can't seem to catch a break. There is a crime boss that shows up on the scene demanding money and these two have to scramble to make it happen. These leads them to Las Vegas and a series of hilarious events that are more funny than the last. I laughed out loud constantly while reading this book and immediately jumped over to the next two books in The Implosion Trilogy. Great stuff!Product details

A thoroughly enjoyable read, engaging characters, many twists and turns throughout. Looking forward to reading the next in the series and see what adventures are in store for them next.
I read loads of indie books, but this is one that I just couldn't get into. I didn't find the humor funny. Maybe it is just me. The introductory scene, I think was supposed to be comical, but I found it drab, over-reaching, and lackluster. It was a freebie (at the time at least), so nothing was lost but a little time. That said, you may be the target audience!
In my humble opinion it is... "Derek & Clive" meets "Withnail & I" meets "Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels. The story focusses on 2 hapless characters, Mike & Jim... and follows their adventures for a while through Portsmouth, Bournemouth and America. Although there is nothing remotely likeable about these two chaps, you do find yourself rooting for them towards the end. Lots of sub-plots going on too. It's easy reading, and plenty of laughs. I really enjoyed it!
If you're looking for a book with plenty of bizarre, unexpected twists and turns thrown in every few pages with a quick, hard-hitting pace, then "They Win. You Lose." is your kind of book. There's always plenty of things happening at once with a few different subplots but it never seems to get to the point where it may feel overwhelming, confusing, and overdone; this is a writing element that is often misused and not executed properly, so I commend the author for being able to do it so smoothly.
This is the only book that I have read so far in the trilogy, so I look forward to seeing what's next.
This was one hilarious book revolving around the two protagonists, Mick and Jim. The duo bicker and butt heads like bros, but the dialogue between the two are second to none.
The entire story begins when Mick and Jim are on the run from the Mafia since they can't afford to pay back the money they owe them. From there the story takes a bunch of bizarre turns from a desert trek to blowing up a motorcycle.
What I particularly liked about the book, was that it always kept me guessing. The situations were random enough to where I could never predict what was going to happen next. Also, the characters are zany as hell, which is a refreshing break from the stereotypical cookie cutter characters in most books.
Overall a hilarious and crazy ride!
