"A taut, well-plotted thriller with a compelling lead character."
KIRKUS Reviews, Aug 2013

Ever beat an opponent at their own game? Feels good, doesn't it.

Lambert Greene must transform himself from dedicated family man into a cunning chameleon, willing to risk everything for his ultimate goal.

Lambert adapts and survives on adrenaline-driven desperation, instinct, and the judicious use of brute force as he confronts the worst of civilization -- the Taliban, opium smugglers, weapons merchants, corrupt locals and foreigners, and an insidious new, expanding regional threat. In his new line of work, no government will protect him. He'll learn that more than money, trust is the most valuable currency.

Best action thriller I've read in quite some time! The author grabs you from the opening pages and proceeds to take you on an international roller coaster ride through Afghanistan and the hottest of the Middle East `hot spots'. His characters are so beautifully developed - especially Lambert Greene - you'll also find yourself on an emotional ride as well. Williams' research is exquisite - the story is set in current time and involves real places with actual weapons and equipment. The only bad thing about this book is if you're reading it at night, you'll find yourself up waaaay past your bedtime because you can't put it down. The ending was so breathtaking and surprising that long after I closed the book, I was still thinking about the story. Geopolitical thrillers are generally not my thing....but The Carlyle Deception changed my mind! Great read! Hope there's a sequel!

Fast and furious action, but with a very believable premise in this day and age. The sorties into hostile Taliban territory are hyper-real white-knucklers. And the banter between the paramilitary characters as they risk life and limb is clever - more genuine to the ear than most novels in this genre. Would've liked to have seen more of the family man side of the main character, but there's also merit to a full-speed-ahead approach. Great ending. Would make a terrific movie in the hands of someone like John McTiernan.
Very few novice authors can accomplish what this writer did and did so well
First he created characters that seemed so true to life that I instantly felt their presence. Some characters I instinctively hated while others felt like friends of mine.
Secondly, the plot was intense, pivotal and yet wholly believable.
Third, despite a great deal of intense action, this is definitely a "thinking novel". It is not something to read to try to go to sleep.
Fourth, he created a novel for which I can't help but pray that there is a sequel out there somewhere.
Great action novel about Black Operations in Afghanistan.
I liked how the author kept the sub plot under wraps until the end.And the seat of your pants action was well written. He also researched weapons and the characters were very well described.
I liked that the characters were not superhuman like in many action novels. Also one did not know much about the main characters background until the plot was revealed and it really surprised me.
I can't wait for the sequel to come out.I recommend this book highly as I read it cover to cover in one night.

Great job Mr.Williams!
